DEFINITELY THE BEST LAGER IN THE…UKStroud Brewery is celebrating after winning a top award in the biggest national independent brewing awards: SIBA’s Independent Beer Awards. Its organic lager, Light Organic Lager (aka LOL), received the gold medal in the Best Bottle/Can Session Lager category beating other competitors from around the UK. Stroud Brewery's founder and MD, Greg Pilley, is disappointed and frustrated at the Government's lack of support for the pub and brewing trade shown by the recent Spring Budget, and predicts that the next year could see more pubs going out of business. Whilst alcohol duty was frozen for another year, this won't make any difference to the large economic pressures that pubs are dealing with at the moment, which led to 508 pubs around the UK shutting in 2023 with the loss of over 6,000 jobs.
